Sunday, July 6 - We hit Oregon about 45 minutes west of Boise. We were pleased with the creativity the state officials demonstrated with the Welcome to Oregon sign. It wasn't just a sign 
on the side of the road: it was a work of art on an overpass, complete with a covered wagon, since we are loosely following the path of the Oregon Trail.

We took I-84 all the way to Portland, which travels along the Columbia River. The view was beautiful, and we could see the terrain slowly getting greener as we got away from the mountains. Then, all of a sudden, out of nowhere as we rounded a curve, Mount Hood appeared. It is huge - over 11,000 feet.
