Tuesday, July 1 - I think we entered a time warp when we walked through the doors of the
Occidental Hotel in Buffalo, WY. We were greeted as if were were long lost cousins coming in from a storm on the prairie. Someone was playing the piano in the elegant lobby, and the barkeep in the Saloon stayed open for us until we could get our luggage inside. When they checked us in, the ladies behind the desk said, "What room are you in...? OH, you're in the Owen Wister Suite!" Apparently,
it's one of their deluxe rooms (more on that in the next post). After we hauled our luggage up the creaky stairs (no elevator of course) with the help of two hotel employees, we went back down to the Saloon. Candie served us their own house beer, and her husband Terry, the breakfast cook, sat with us at the bar, along with another couple from Indiana who just pulled in.
