Up and Over the Big Horns

Wednesday, July 2 - In order to get to Yellowstone, we had to drive through the Big Horn Mountains. We chose the scenic US-14A highway, which has a lot of switchbacks and has a long 10% grade descent on the other side, as you can see from this crazy sign. This road is only open in the summer, for obvious reasons. Sandy drove this route, and despite a little trepidation, she did a banner job, even learning how to use 2nd gear to slow the car down as we decended. There were lots of fantastic views, and Sandy had her first real wildlife sighting - a moose - although I almost missed it and only saw his behind. As we drove up, we entered a low layer of clouds/fog, and it got quite bit colder and started to rain. Then, the sun came out as we went down the other side.
